Maurizio Sarri evaluating Newcastle United, West Ham United bids

Maurizio Sarri wants to return to England this summer and reportedly regrets leaving Chelsea after just one season, according to a story published by the Italian publication Il Messaggero. The 65-year-old is evaluating offers from my Newcastle United and West Ham United but has already turned down one from Nottingham Forest.

One of the few managers without any prior playing experience is Maurizio Sarri. The Italian strategist was formerly a banker and, having played amateur football, developed an interest in football management. Before joining SSC Napoli, he managed 16 clubs in almost as many years, going unnoticed for the first half of his career.

Before Chelsea called on Sarri in 2018, a number of prestigious teams had their sights set on him following his time at Napoli. His time with the West London team was short-lived, though, as he helped them win the UEFA Europa League in 2018–19 and get to the EFL Cup final. The 65-year-old has managed Juventus and Lazio since leaving Chelsea, with mediocre results over the past five years. Sarri hopes to return to England this summer, but he regrets leaving Chelsea. Nottingham Forest made a bid, which he turned down. West Ham United and Newcastle United both made offers to him.

It seems sense that Newcastle United would be interested in Maurizio Sarri. Eddie Howe is under a lot of criticism following the Tyneside team’s disappointing 2023–24 campaign thus far. As a result, they have targeted Xavi Hernandez and other managers. But Newcastle United is also a potential suitor for Sarri. Regarding West Ham. Following his team’s elimination from the UEFA Europa League this week, David Moyes’s future at the London Stadium is in doubt. Moyes may leave the Hammers after the current campaign, even though the team has a chance to place in the top six. Thus, Thomas Tuchel is one of the contenders for the position, and Sarri, another former Chelsea manager, is also a viable choice.

The 65-year-old turned down Nottingham Forest’s offer and is now considering both. Given his connections to West Ham United and Newcastle United, it will be interesting to watch if the Italian tactician moves back to England.
