Despite having come up through the ranks at Manchester United, Angel Gomes is currently making waves at Lille in France. In addition to Germany and Italy, Tottenham Hotspur is one of four Premier League teams interested in the midfield player.
Gomes, who came up through United’s development system, played ten games with the Red Devils before leaving on a free transfer in 2020 to play more football in the first team.
That appears to have been a wise choice now that he’s moved to Lille, where he’s developed into one of Ligue 1’s most inventive and highly regarded players.
Gomes has made 44 appearances for the French team this season across all competitions, tallying two goals and 10 assists (Transfermarkt). Naturally, due to his success, he is now being observed by several Premier League teams in addition to elite teams in Germany and Italy.
Is Angel Gomes going back to England?
Tottenham is reportedly one of the teams interested in the 23-year-old, but divisional opponents will put up a fierce fight.
According to the article, Lille is attempting to sign Gomes to a new “long-term” contract because his present one expires the next year.
Gomes’ head could be turned, though, since a lot of major teams are currently “paying close attention” to his Lille circumstances and performances.
West Ham, Tottenham, and Aston Villa have all reportedly been “watching him closely” and are reportedly “impressed” with what they have observed. Manchester United is also thinking about making an effort to get Gomes back to the team.
Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, among others, have also expressed an interest in the situation.
