Under new manager Julen Lopetegui, West Ham United’s summer transfer intentions have encountered a roadblock with regard to Josh Brownhill, a midfielder for Burnley.
West Ham may still seek Brownhill during the transfer window even though a free transfer is no longer an option. Given that Burnley has extended his contract, a transfer fee would be discussed during negotiations. With just one year left on his present contract, Brownhill might be a more reasonable target.
With Lucas Paqueta, James Ward-Prowse, and Tomas Soucek in the midfield, West Ham already has a formidable unit. But depending on West Ham’s transfer policy and Lopetegui’s plans for the team, Brownhill might be able to move, should Kalvin Phillips and Paqueta depart.
West Ham will now have to consider the possible advantages of signing Brownhill against the transfer cost Burnley would seek, as the free transfer option has been closed. We should keep an eye on this issue as the summer transfer season draws near.
