For manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham has held talks about signing a player for £80,000 a week this summer. Chairman Daniel Levy is in the driver’s seat to finalise a deal.
When the transfer market reopens on June 14, a number of players may end up leaving Spurs. Reliable insider Paul O’Keefe recently reported that they are open to offers for over a dozen senior players.
Given the abundance of players that Tottenham could sell, fans may make a very reasonable guess as to who they might be: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, and Yves Bissouma.
As he approaches the last 12 months of his contract in North London, Hojbjerg’s contribution to the squad has significantly decreased when compared to prior seasons under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
The Danish international has started in the great majority of games this season, although a disproportionate amount of those came off the bench. Hojbjerg said that during a recent Danish tour of duty, he was not thrilled with the circumstances.
“Of course, I’m not happy with what’s going on at the club. It’s not a secret, but it’s not something I make a fuss about either,” said Hojbjerg on his playing time at Spurs this season.
“I can put my head on the pillow knowing that I’m giving it my all to show the coach that he should believe in me. This is not the case at the moment, and it’s the coach who has to explain why.”
Due to a drop in form, Lo Celso is rumoured to be dissatisfied with his Tottenham playing time, and Spurs are considering bids for Bissouma. They will almost probably need to bring in a new player for the engine room, as three of Postecoglou’s midfield options are all up for the chop. Morgan Gibbs-White, a standout player for Nottingham Forest, is one of many players who have been linked.
The Englishman, who has excelled at Forest this season, is a versatile midfield player who would be a great alternative to players like Hojbjerg or Lo Celso.
Tottenham has reportedly held talks to sign Gibbs-White, and it is thought that Levy is in the driver’s seat to reach a deal for the 24-year-old, who may fetch up to £60 million, according to Football Insider.
A man who reportedly earns £80,000 a week, Gibbs-White has also been hailed for his leadership abilities by other players and described as “top-class” by Harry Redknapp.
“I really like Gibbs-White, I think he’s a real character and a leader in that Forest team,” said pundit John Wenham to Tottenham News.
“He has lots of positive attributes, he can cover a couple of midfield positions, and it wouldn’t take long for him to become a regular for England if he was playing at Spurs.”
