Phil Parkinson has dismissed suggestions that the FA Cup is an unwanted distraction, insisting Wrexham will go all out to defeat Ipswich Town and extend their run in the competition.
The Reds head into the fourth-round tie at The Racecourse on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Millwall. Despite that setback, Wrexham remain firmly in the Championship play-off places with 15 league matches still to play.
While the push for a top-six finish remains the club’s primary objective, attention temporarily turns to cup action as they host fellow second-tier side Ipswich. Parkinson is adamant his players will embrace the occasion.
“It is a distraction, but it’s a welcome one,” said the Wrexham manager. “We always talk about the magic of the FA Cup, and when these games come around, you have to enjoy them.
“I want us to approach it with real positivity in our performance.
“We know what Ipswich are about — we’ve faced them before — but it’s about the energy and intensity we bring on the night and whether that’s enough.”
Although Wrexham would have preferred to arrive on the back of a victory, Parkinson pointed to recent wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers as evidence that his side remain in strong form.
For the Reds, the cup provides a brief pause from league pressures — and an opportunity to embrace the occasion.
