Dear Kobe and Gigi: A Five-Year-Old’s Heartfelt Letter to the Bryants

Dear Kobe and Gigi,

I never got to see you play basketball, but I hear stories about how amazing you both were. My mommy and daddy tell me how much you loved the game and how you always smiled when you were on the court together. Even though I’m just five, I feel like I know you both because of the stories.

I drew a picture of you two playing basketball in heaven. I put wings on you so you can fly high and dunk the ball whenever you want. You both are so happy in my picture because I think that’s how you would be, still playing together and having fun. I made sure to draw you smiling because everyone says you always had the best smiles.

Kobe, I know you were a hero to a lot of people. My daddy says you were the best at never giving up and always trying your hardest. And Gigi, I hear you were going to be a big star just like your dad. I think you both are playing basketball in heaven now, and I hope you’re having a great time.

I wish I could have met you, but I know you’re watching over all of us from up there. I want to be brave and strong like you, Kobe, and I want to play basketball with as much love as you, Gigi. Whenever I play, I’ll think of you both and try to make you proud.

Thank you for showing us how to love the game and each other. I hope you know how much we all miss you, but we know you’re in a happy place, shooting hoops and smiling together.

Love,

A Little Fan
