The Detroit Lions defeated the Seattle Seahawks 42–29, led by Jared Goff, marking the team’s first loss of the season.
With two touchdown passes and eighteen pass completions overall, Goff’s 18 completions are the most in an NFL game without an incomplete throw. In addition, the quarterback recorded his first receiving touchdown of the game. Goff said to ESPN, “It’s good when the ball doesn’t hit the ground.”
“During the game, I was unsure of the record. I was attempting to retrieve any incomplete passes that I might have. Though I wasn’t completely sure, I knew I had a chance. As a result, both teams’ season records are now 3-1.
Geno Smith had a career-high 395 passing yards, 38 completions out of 56 attempts, one touchdown pass, and one interception for the Seahawks. At halftime of their home game at Ford Field, the Lions lead 21–7, with two goals from David Montgomery and one from Jahmyr Gibbs. The Seahawks made a comeback to cut Detroit’s lead to one score, but before the final quarter, Goff connected with Jameson Williams for a 70-yard touchdown, making the score 35-20.
The Lions continue to trail the Minnesota Vikings, who are unbeaten, in the NFC North. The Seahawks lead the NFC West despite the loss. The only teams in the NFL with a perfect 4-0 record are the Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs, the winners of the Super Bowl. The Tennessee Titans won their first game of the season, defeating the Miami Dolphins 31–12, in the other game on Monday. At Hard Rock Stadium, Nick Folk kicked five field goals while Tyjae Spears and Tony Pollard ran for scores.
Substituting for the injured Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley ended the team’s 10-quarter streak without a touchdown with a one-yard scoring run late in the game. The winless Jacksonville Jaguars are surpassed by the Titans, who maintain their third-place standing in the AFC South. 1-3, the Dolphins are at the basement of the AFC East.
