LeBron James and Bronny James have reportedly reached a decision for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers selected USC guard Bronny James with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, making history by forming the first-ever father-son duo in the league with LeBron James entering his seventh season in Los Angeles.
LeBron and Bronny shared the court for the first time in a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, where Bronny played 13 minutes without scoring, grabbed two rebounds, and took only one shot.
This preseason moment has sparked curiosity among fans about when they’ll see the two play together in a regular season game. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Lakers are planning to have LeBron and Bronny share the court in their season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“We’re going to witness history very soon,” Charania stated.
However, the decision has led to criticism, with many fans accusing the Lakers of being “unserious” for making this move on opening night.
“Extremely unserious for them to do this, especially against the Timberwolves,”
The term “unserious” was widely used in responses, with fans expressing concern that the Lakers are prioritizing the father-son storyline over their competitiveness.
“This might be the most unserious team I’ve ever seen,” another fan commented.
After the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of last year’s playoffs, many believe the team is more focused on the LeBron-Bronny narrative than winning games.
“Keeping up with the Jameses. Lakers are more of a reality show than an NBA team this season,” one fan said.
While the father-son duo is a heartwarming story for many, the backlash continues.
“So they care more about engagement than winning?” a fan asked.
One fan even compared the Lakers’ situation to the criticism of Colorado Football, accusing them of “playing for clicks” rather than wins.
“People criticize Colorado for ‘playing for clicks,’ but the Lakers are doing the same thing. Funny thing is, both teams aren’t that good. Lakers are a 10 seed at best, and Colorado might make a bowl, but definitely not the playoffs.”
According to Charania, Bronny is expected to make an appearance alongside his father in the season opener, though he may spend time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League later in the season.
The Lakers face the Timberwolves on October 22 in Los Angeles.
