Done deal: Tottenham to splash £60m on top striker.

According to Andy Townsend, a Tottenham Hotspur target makes him think of Harry Kane, the team’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Following his summer transfer to Bayern Munich, Harry Kane left Tottenham without bringing in a comparable player.

Heung-min Son has flourished as a striker in the Premier League this season, scoring 14 goals and dishing out eight assists.

Though Richarlison had a remarkable run of performance in December and February, Spurs still don’t have a player who can really provide a physical presence up front.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham decides to acquire a striker of that calibre. However, they have consistently been connected to a move for Ivan Toney.

Spurs were reportedly quite keen in seeing how the Brentford striker performed for England against Belgium last night, according to a Monday report.

And Toney has merited comparisons to Kane after scoring his first goal for England from the penalty spot.

Toney, a Tottenham target, is superior to Kane.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Andy Townsend talked about Kane’s deputy for the 2024 European Championship.

When asked if Toney’s link-up play makes him superior to Ollie Watkins, the analyst answered in the negative.

“Yes, it seems to,” he replied. “I believe he excels at that. He’s not the fastest, but he does that for his club extremely naturally.

“Do you think he’s more Kane-like than Watkins?” McCoist then inquired.

Townsend remarked, “I think he’s more Harry Kane-like than Watkins.” Ollie Watkins puts up more effort than anyone else in the Premier League when it comes to chasing goals, making an effort, and venturing into difficult situations.

However, I believe that Ivan Toney has a slight edge when it comes to grabbing hold of the ball, dribbling down 10 yards, and allowing opponents to pass him. He excels, in my opinion, at forming connections with those kinds of players.

“Once more, I believe he simply gets the go-ahead in that regard if that’s what Gareth wants, or is he going to pursue something else, perhaps?”

Apologies, But We Need To Talk About The New England Kit Heung-min Son has been a standout striker in the Premier League this year, with 14 goals and 8 assists.

Could Toney take Kane’s place?

Should Tottenham decide to replace Kane, Toney is maybe the most comparable striker available in terms of attributes.

The top player for Brentford is outstanding in the air, has a respectable passing range, and—most importantly—is a deadly finisher.

Brentford is rumoured to be asking for over £60 million for the striker, so he would fit Spurs’ needs really well.

Of course, Tottenham will never be able to replace Kane with a player of comparable calibre. However, Ange Postecoglou might be able to acquire a prolific goal scorer if he were to sign someone like Toney.
