Before today’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Jean-Philippe Mateta and his Crystal Palace colleagues had been working on the specifics of new manager Oliver Glasner’s tactical plan during the three weeks between games.
Due to a conflict with the FA Cup quarterfinals, the Eagles’ game against Newcastle United was rescheduled. This gave Glasner and company the opportunity to train in Marbella and play a midseason friendly against Norwegian team Bodø/Glimt.
Mateta saw it as an opportunity to work closely with the manager prior to the run-in.
“We concentrated on the details, and I think it was good for the manager and the players because of the routines,” he said. “It was good.”
“All those details, like how to play and press,. The details were more important on this journey.
Mateta stated that the squad’s cohesion and unity were the new manager’s main takeaways.

Mateta, who benefits from both players’ contributions to a strong group of attacking players, is hoping that their performances will help the team, beginning on Saturday.
He remarked, “They are great players, but injuries happen in football.” “They can build something; their technique is strong.” They occasionally have the power to choose the game, which benefits us.
“It is enough for me to go [to the city ground] and win.”
