What needs to change for Ange to win trophies at Tottenham is revealed by Jamie Carragher.

Despite his team’s inconsistent results, Ange Postecoglou, the former Celtic manager, has had a fantastic start to life at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Australian manager has been successful in changing Tottenham’s playing philosophy. The North London team is now a front-footed, possession-based unit instead of one that relies on counterattacks.

Although Postecoglou has had a strong start for Spurs, Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, believes they must establish a strong defensive line if they hope to catch up to teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.

“What people forget about Pep’s football is that his sides are always the best defensively, or certainly one of the best,” Carragher stated on The Overlap. How many goals you give up worries me.

That needs to alter. People frequently discuss Pep’s football skills, and while we focus on him when he plays, he also does an excellent job off the ball. If Tottenham is to win the major trophies, there needs to be a significant change in mindset.

Tottenham’s defence needs to get better.

Before the 2023–2024 season, Tottenham announced their separation from record goal scorer Harry Kane and made the decision not to sign a replacement. They have not really experienced any issues at the top, despite it.

With the help of their wide players, the North London team has scored goals on 62 occasions in their 30 league games.

On defence, though, Postecoglou’s team has not played all that well. They are only three goals less than Chelsea, who are now ranked 12th, having let up 44 goals in the league this season.

Carragher believes that if they want to contend for major trophies, they must strengthen their defence. The former defender for Liverpool made the point that Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, has one of the finest defences in the world, and that defence is the foundation of their success. Despite receiving more attention for their attacking style, their defence is just as strong as their attack. Additionally, the Spurs must strengthen their defence if they hope to contend for championships.
