The Detroit Lions made significant strides in the 2023 season, reaching the NFC Championship Game for the first time in over three decades. However, one of their most glaring weaknesses was the lack of a consistent pass rush outside of Aidan Hutchinson. Another name to watch is UCLA’s Laiatu Latu, who also recorded 16.5 sacks in 2023. Latu has been one of the most technically refined pass rushers in college football, displaying an elite combination of speed, power, and hand usage. His ability to disrupt plays in the backfield could make him an ideal fit for Detroit’s aggressive defensive scheme.
Free Agent Options
If the Lions choose to bolster their pass rush through free agency instead of the draft, there are several intriguing options available. Josh Allen of the Jacksonville Jaguars is coming off a career-best 17.5-sack season and could be a prime target if he reaches the open market. Another potential option is Bryce Huff, a rising star for the New York Jets who recorded 10 sacks in 2023 despite playing limited snaps.
