Novak Djokovic is still in the hunt at the 2025 US Open, though not without turbulence. The 38-year-old Serbian star battled back from a set down to defeat American qualifier Zachary Svajda 6-7(5-7), 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, securing his place in the third round.
After the match, Djokovic admitted he is still “working to decode the puzzle” of his game, acknowledging his slow start and inconsistency before finding his rhythm in the later sets. Despite his dissatisfaction with his performance, he showed flashes of the dominance that has carried him to 24 Grand Slam titles.
Now chasing his 25th major crown—and first since lifting the US Open trophy in 2023—Djokovic remains motivated, even as he manages the physical and mental demands of competing at the highest level well into his late 30s.
His next test will come against Britain’s Cameron Norrie, a familiar opponent he defeated earlier this year at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
In a side note, Djokovic also voiced frustration about the “stench” of cannabis smoke around the tournament grounds, though organizers appear unlikely to intervene.
As the quest for history continues, all eyes remain on whether Djokovic can find his best form in New York and add another chapter to his remarkable career.
