Ipswich Town on the Verge of Beating Premier League Rivals to £17.2m Star in Stunning Transfer Coup!

EFL Analysis can confirm that Ipswich Town are on the verge of completing one of the standout transfers of the summer, as they close in on highly-rated Norwegian winger Sindre Walle Egeli in a deal worth £17.2 million.

After a promising start to the 2025/26 Championship season—drawing with fellow promotion contenders Birmingham City and Southampton—Ipswich are now looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their weekend clash with Preston North End.

Searching for Hutchinson’s Heir

Following Omari Hutchinson’s £37.5m move to Nottingham Forest, replacing the England youth international has been a key priority for manager Kieran McKenna. Hutchinson, who scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in 82 appearances, left a major void on the right wing.

Now, Ipswich look set to fill that gap with 19-year-old Sindre Walle Egeli, who has been making waves at FC Nordsjaelland. EFL Analysis understands that the Tractor Boys are “pushing hard” to get the deal over the line.

A Rising Star in Europe

Egeli has already impressed this season, registering one goal and two assists in his first five appearances. According to Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Ipswich are close to finalising personal terms with the player, who is reportedly excited about working under McKenna.

“Ipswich are pushing hard to get Walle Egeli – this would be a remarkable deal,” said Bailey.
“A host of Premier League clubs have been tracking him. I honestly believe this could be one of the most impressive signings of the window by any English club.”

Dutch giants PSV were also interested in Egeli, but Ipswich now appear to be in pole position to complete the deal, which could total €20m/£17.2m.

The Stats Behind the Hype

Egeli’s numbers back up the buzz. In the 2024/25 season, he recorded nine goals and five assists in 31 Superligaen matches—his first full campaign in Denmark. Across 42 total appearances for Nordsjaelland, he’s scored 10 and assisted eight.

The left-footed winger, known for his technical skill and creativity, plays predominantly on the right—mirroring Hutchinson’s style. He’s also broken youth scoring records in Norway once held by Erling Haaland, marking him as one of the brightest young attacking prospects in Europe.

Ipswich Building for the Future

While Egeli is the marquee target, Ipswich have also shown interest in Kasey McAteer from Leicester City, submitting a surprise bid for the youngster Sunderland previously valued at £10m during the January window.

However, Egeli remains the top priority—and should the deal be completed, it would signal a major statement of intent from Ipswich as they continue to build under McKenna.

With Premier League clubs circling and Europe’s elite taking notice, Ipswich’s near-capture of Walle Egeli could go down as one of the most eye-catching moves of the summer.
