In the wake of Tadej Pogačar’s commanding victory at the 2025 Flèche Wallonne, cycling legends Lance Armstrong and Johan Bruyneel have offered high praise for the Slovenian rider. Speaking on their podcast, The Move, Armstrong remarked, “If he always raced like this, he wouldn’t lose any race,” highlighting Pogačar’s exceptional performance.
Armstrong, who clinched the Flèche Wallonne title in 1996, expressed admiration for Pogačar’s dominance, stating, “Another day with another great performance by Tadej Pogačar who, as I said a few weeks ago, when this is all over is going to be considered the best cyclist in history.” Bruyneel echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Pogačar’s unparalleled versatility and strategic acumen.
Pogačar’s recent triumph adds to an already impressive season. Earlier, he showcased his prowess by winning the Giro d’Italia, securing six stage victories and finishing nearly ten minutes ahead of his closest competitor. Armstrong and Bruyneel noted that Pogačar appeared to restrain himself during the Giro, suggesting he could have achieved even more had he chosen to push harder.
Despite a couple of second-place finishes in the Amstel Gold Race and Paris-Roubaix, Pogačar’s performance at the Flèche Wallonne reaffirmed his dominance. He executed a decisive attack on the Mur de Huy, leaving his rivals behind and finishing with a ten-second lead—a significant margin in this race. Pogačar attributed his success to effective teamwork and strategic planning, particularly praising teammate Jan Christen for his support during the race.
As the cycling world turns its attention to the upcoming Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour de France, Armstrong and Bruyneel’s comments underscore the anticipation surrounding Pogačar’s future performances. Their insights highlight the Slovenian’s potential to redefine the sport’s history, provided he maintains his current form and strategic approach.
