Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for their return to Premier League action tonight against Chelsea. Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge, looking to continue their quest to secure European football.
Ange Postecoglou’s team head into the fixture on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend in the North London Derby. Tonight’s game sees Tottenham go into the fixture in fifth place and seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League table.
After Borussia Dortmund’s win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, Spurs will need to finish in fourth place to qualify for the Champions League. Postecoglou will be forced to deal with several injury concerns in his squad.
The Spurs manager confirmed that Timo Werner and Ben Davies will be sidelined for the game and will also miss the remainder of the season through injury. Postecoglou did, however, provide some positive news in Wednesday’s press conference, with Oliver Skipp expected to return to the squad. Skipp missed the defeat to Arsenal with a slight knock he picked up in training, but he could make his return to the matchday squad for the clash against Chelsea.
“Not good. We’ve had a couple of injuries,” the former Celtic boss told reporters on Wednesday.
“Timo [Werner] with his hamstring. With only two to three weeks or so left, he’ll miss the rest of the season. Ben Davies got a calf injury in the game, and that’s the rest of his season. Skippy [Oliver Skipp] should be back.”
