Kirby Smart of Georgia is now the highest-paid football coach in the nation.

The Bulldogs and Smart reached an agreement to extend their contract, which will take effect in 2024, the organisation said on Thursday. His new contract is said to pay him $13 million in 2024 and last until the 2033 campaign.


With the new contract, Smart will overtake Dabo Swinney of Clemson to become the highest-paid football coach in the country. In 2024, Swinney will earn $11 million.

Compared to his previous contract, Smart’s average annual compensation will increase by $1.75 million with the two-year extension. Additionally, the deal raises his $1.3 million maximum incentive to $1.5 million. After winning his first national title in 2022, Smart signed a 10-year, $110 million extension, which was replaced by his new contract.

Smart has a 94-16 career record at Georgia, which includes a 56-9 SEC record. Under Smart, Georgia has advanced to three national championship games and won two of them.
