Mohamed Kamara, a fifth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins, spoke with the media this past weekend as the team wrapped up their rookie minicamp.
All seven of the Miami Dolphins’ draft selections, twelve undrafted free agents, and a number of tryout players were present at the team’s training facilities in Miami Gardens, Florida, during the weekend for the team’s 2024 rookie minicamp. Over the weekend, the players started breaking down the playbook, discussed what to anticipate from their practice routines come training camp and conducted their first on-field drills. Outside linebacker Mohamed Kamara of Colorado State, a fifth-round selection, met with the media to talk about his move to the NFL
In response to his initial experience donning an NFL jersey, Kamara stated that the truth had not yet had time to set in. Kamara made the following statement on Friday, the opening day of the two-day minicamp: “Today is the first time [I put it on].” Since we had to head outside as soon as I put it on, I wasn’t able to fully experience that moment. Really, I couldn’t tell you.
Kamara is also aware of how much work he still needs to accomplish. He said, “Man, my brother called me last night.” “You made it to the locker room,” he remarked. That’s all it means; I didn’t accomplish anything beyond getting to the locker room. I still need to establish my worth.
All I did was make it to the changing area. I still need to establish my worth.
Even though he has barely reached the locker room, he has completely adapted to becoming a Dolphin. When Kamara was a child, he was asked if he was a New York sports fan because he was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. With a grin, he shot out, “The sports team that I like? The Dolphins of Miami.
Speaking about the Dolphins’ orange and aqua uniform combination, he went on, “I really like it; I’m not going to lie.” One fan created fan art of my old shirt in aqua, which I ultimately shared on Instagram. It was better, but it was more white. I thought, “Well, that forty-two looks good,” but I actually received fifty.
Despite recording 29.5 sacks in five seasons at Colorado State—including 13.0 last year—Kamara was nonetheless selected in the fifth round. In response to the question of why he believes he was not selected sooner, Kamara said, “I want to say—it was quite some time.” I made an effort to ignore the negative thoughts. Aside from the fact that I’m short or something, there weren’t many problems.
At 6-foot-1, 248 pounds, and with an arm width of 32-3/8 inches, Kamara is somewhat undersized for an NFL edge rusher. Kamara said at his first press conference following his selection last month that he was prepared to make any team that did not choose him regret their decision. When asked if that continued to motivate him throughout minicamp, the rookie said, “Obviously. It’s not offensive. I must, of course, exercise humility in this situation because—shoot—I am here. Even so, I’m happy to be here. I’m still having a great time. I’m energised. We were in walkthrough today, and even Coach [Ryan Crow, outside linebackers coach] had to tell me to cool down.
I’m still having a great time. I’m energised.
Kamara does consider his bulk to be a benefit. Asked about being seen negatively by teams, which allowed the Dolphins to take him in the fifth round, he responded, “I’m low to the ground, so I’m going to always use that.” I’m also faster. A few of those people are longer in stature, have longer strides, and so forth. I’m swift, and I’ll get to you quickly.
Even though Kamara’s career is just two days old, he is already looking for ways to get better. Kamara was receptive to any kind of instruction when asked about his preferences, including walkthroughs, whiteboard work, and using a notepad. All three, he retorted. I’ve even brought my tablet outside. I neglected to remember that I was supposed to be in the media. However, my tablet is right here, and I was going to start using it. Things are stored on my iPad. I’ve already started jotting notes in my notepad. I enjoy seeing pictures. Whatever it is, I’ll get the information any way I can.
Kamar understands that his first offseason wasn’t really that much of one. When asked whether he wanted to use this opportunity to expand on his pass-rush repertoire or hone what he was already doing, the rookie replied, “Polish.” Polish. My offseason is not this one. I don’t have a break in which to get a new job. I’m given a month once this is resolved, after which I immediately return to it. Thus, for me, there is no off-season. I will thus use whatever I have at my disposal to defeat the foe in front of me.

asked about his new teammate, Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson, a first-round selection from Miami. “Most of the time, we were competing,” Kamara clarified. “We have a friendly-hate relationship,” he said, laughing.
Then he said, “That right there is my guy.” We will always support one another in every way. We were simply competing most of the time. For the most part, it was just a realisation of how talented he is and how talented I am as well. I’m just attempting to get there, then. There was a reason he went to the first round.
Robinson responded with a straightforward “go” when asked what he does best on the pitch. He goes, man.
