Spurs’ victory over Villa this past weekend restored the cheer at Hotspur Way and maintained them in the running for the coveted European qualification spot.
Spurs have had a difficult few months due to a plethora of injuries, some major and some minor. However, the pressure was mounting as Postecoglou’s fast-paced, on-the-front-foot style of football was regularly sidelined due to absences and the fact that returning players would eventually need to regain match fitness.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, two fresh additions, are essential to our revamped midfield.
At barely 21 years old, Sarr is an incredible player who has established himself as a key member of a Premier League team. Without him, Spurs would have to settle for players like Oliver Skipp, who is unable to provide Ange with the kind of playmaker she needs. According to Postecoglou, the official website:
“He gives everything all the time. To be honest, I felt he was unlucky to receive the yellow card, but once again, he handled himself nicely. He’s mature for a young man, and those kinds of individuals are beautiful. A handful of them play football for our team, and they have such high ceilings—in fact, they may never reach their full potential as players.
Clubs talk a good game when it comes to finding and developing young talent, but in practice, it’s a very difficult and sometimes frustrating process. There is a Ryan Sessegnon for every Sarr, whose superb cross on Sunday found James Maddison. It is also very encouraging to learn that Sarr is mature since this should help steer him in the proper direction going forward.
