For the second summer in a row, West Ham will try to sign a defender for Manchester United, and the unexpected magic number that may complete a deal has been disclosed.
Last summer, the Hammers and England international Maguire agreed on a £30 million contract. David Moyes, the manager, has always had great admiration for the 31-year-old, who would bring a wealth of expertise to the capital.
Though accounts vary as to why the move finally fell through, they all concur that Maguire was behind it.
Some sources suggest that Maguire never consented to personal terms with West Ham, while others assert that the transaction fell through because Manchester United and Maguire could not agree on a payoff.
In any event, West Ham was turned down and would later, in the transfer window, sign Greek international Konstantinos Mavropanos for €25 million.
Nevertheless, several rumours claim that West Ham is not willing to accept no in regards to Maguire.

Today, Football Insider confirmed recent rumors from the Sun that West Ham will make another bid for the center defender at the end of the season.
FI indicates that, whether or not David Moyes is still the manager of West Ham, a formal investigation will be made.
The Scot is a great admirer of Maguire’s, but it appears that the West Ham administration feels that Maguire would be a fantastic addition to any manager.
This season, Moyes’ role as West Ham manager has come under scrutiny, and his current contract is set to expire in the summer. Moyes has openly said that he has received an extended offer from West Ham.
