Two offensive mainstays’ contracts were recently reworked by the 49ers, freeing up a tonne of cap room. Both tight end George Kittle and fullback Kyle Juszczyk consented to contract restructurings in order to decrease their influence on the salary cap, according to ESPN’s Field Yates and Adam Schefter.
NBC Sports’ Charean Williams gave us more information on Kittle’s recently revised contract. The veteran tight end’s basic pay of $13.4 million was scheduled to increase to $21.96 million in 2024 due to a cap hit. Rather, the team added one voidable year to the two already existent at the end of his deal and turned the $12.19MM of his base pay for 2024 into a signing bonus. The team’s salary cap has $9.75MM more room after the transaction.
A later report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network revealed certain information that would clear roughly $4MM of salary space, contrary to Schefter’s first story that stated the restructuring for Juszczyk would free up approximately $1.75MM of cap space. According to reports, the revised agreement will lower his base pay in 2024 and 2025, making the $9.1MM contract effectively only last two years. Juszczyk received $4MM in more guarantees from San Francisco in exchange for his lower salary.
