Michael Carrick has responded after being named on a Manager of the Season shortlist, following his impressive spell in charge of Middlesbrough F.C.
Carrick’s time at the Riverside Stadium drew significant attention, particularly due to the impact he made shortly after taking over the club. His appointment came during a challenging period, with Middlesbrough struggling for form and sitting low in the Championship table when he arrived.
The former Manchester United midfielder was tasked with stabilising the team and quickly began reshaping their performances. Under his leadership, Middlesbrough started to show more structure, confidence, and attacking intent, which led to a noticeable rise in results.
As the season progressed, the improvement became even more evident. The team climbed away from the lower end of the table and began pushing toward the playoff positions, earning praise for their consistency and playing style. Carrick’s influence was widely seen as a key factor in the turnaround.
His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was eventually shortlisted for Manager of the Season alongside some of the division’s most respected coaches. The nomination reflected the strong impression he made in his first major managerial role.
Much of the recognition centred on how quickly he was able to change the team’s mentality. Middlesbrough, who had previously struggled with inconsistency, began to look more organised and competitive under his guidance.
Supporters and observers also highlighted his calm approach on the touchline and his ability to improve individual players. Several members of the squad appeared to benefit from his coaching style, contributing to the team’s overall progress.
Although Middlesbrough ultimately fell short of securing promotion during his tenure, Carrick’s work was still viewed positively. The club remained competitive in the Championship, regularly challenging teams around the playoff places.
His spell eventually came to an end after the club failed to achieve a top-six finish in a later campaign, bringing closure to his time at the Riverside. Despite that, his reputation as a promising young manager in English football remained intact.
The Manager of the Season recognition served as further proof of the impact he made during his time at Middlesbrough, and his managerial journey continues to attract interest as he moves forward in his career.
