Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall of the 49ers has a unique bond with his father, Rick Sr., who has supported him throughout his life.
Showing up on 95.7 on “Morning Roast” with Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky on The Game, Pearsall was questioned about when his father, a Northern Arizona football player, started teaching him the game.
“The coaching started as soon as I was able to catch a football,” Pearsall stated. “He still claims that he was quicker than me when he was playing, so we go back and forth on that.”
When the rookie receiver was questioned about whether his father had ever given him negative feedback on his plays, Pearsall responded by informing Hill and Shasky that Rick Sr. would never stop texting him after a game with criticism.
“He’s my biggest critic, without a doubt,” Pearsall said. The chats we have are like the longest paragraphs you’ve ever seen; you’re scrolling for a good five minutes. I wish I could take a snapshot of them and email them to you guys. I say, “Here we go,” as soon as I see his contact name appear.”
Before moving to Florida, Pearsall started his career as a teammate of Brandon Aiyuk at Arizona State. Pearsall only had 61 receptions for 794 yards and two scores in his three seasons with the Sun Devils.
Pearsall developed into a premier receiver at Gainesville, where he finished his two seasons with the Gators with 98 receptions for 1,547 yards and three scores.
With the No. 31 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, San Francisco selected Pearsall, who is anticipated to add more vertical threat to their dynamic offence. As things stand, the 23-year-old will form one of the 49ers’ hopes for the top pass-catching trio in the NFL with Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.
With Pearsall joining the squad, the 49ers hope to improve their thin receiving corps and gain an advantage against man coverage, an area in which they were vulnerable in their Super Bowl LVIII defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
