Oliver Glasner’s team lacks depth; therefore, Crystal Palace may see a “summer of change” at Selhurst Park.
Journalist Dean Jones claims that Crystal Palace would see a “summer of change” due to worries about the depth of OIiver Glasner’s team at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles will believe they have enough left in them to escape being relegated to the Championship in the final weeks of the season, despite having flirted with relegation earlier in the 2023–2024 Premier League season.
In anticipation of his first full term in charge of the South London team, Glasner hopes to see his Palace team formed in his own image heading into the summer transfer window of 2024. But Roy Hodgson’s successor is primarily concerned with making sure Palace has a successful season finale.
Crystal Palace having trouble with insufficient squad depth
After Roy Hodgson’s contract was extended to the summer of 2024, Crystal Palace would have hoped for better results after a challenging 2023–24 season. The 76-year-old made a triumphant comeback to Selhurst Park in March 2023, leading the Eagles to safety following their brief stint in the Premier League under Patrick Vieira’s leadership.
Though initially expected to play out the rest of the season, Hodgson eventually stood down in February since this term had become a horrible experience for the Palace supporters. As the campaign neared its end, Glasner would have liked to see better attitudes and an atmosphere surrounding the training area.
The 49-year-old’s Premier League career has had a mixed start. In his first game, his team easily defeated relegation hopefuls Burnley 3-0. However, he then suffered a setback at Tottenham Hotspur and a painful 1-1 draw at home against Luton Town.
Glasner might believe that his team lacks the depth of players and resources necessary to try to win a game, regardless of whether he is pursuing a goal or trying to hold out for a result in the dying minutes of play. The Austrian’s primary focus will be trying to win over the Palace supporters by playing wide, attacking football, given that the Selhurst Park fans expressed dissatisfaction with Hodgson’s style of play.
Dean Jones: Glasner wants to use offensive football to win over Palace supporters.
Jones stated that the team appears “weak” in both the attacking and defensive categories, and he is not shocked by Crystal Palace’s difficulties this season. The writer also asserts that coming forward, Glasner needs to concentrate on the team’s “attention and team structure.” Smith stated to GIVEMESPORT:
”When it comes to squad depth and composition, Palace now have a problem since the options are just not there. Their dismal record does not come as a big surprise to me because they have a tendency to give the impression that they are not trying hard enough to win games. One of the main issues Glasner would always have in this role is that winning over supporters usually requires playing expansive, aggressive football, which is just not feasible at Palace right now due to the team’s lack of capability. It is one of the main areas they will concentrate on moving forward. They have a busy summer ahead of them, but until then, Glasner’s emphasis on focus and team dynamics will be crucial to their success.”
The remaining games for Crystal Palace
Despite a challenging season, Crystal Palace will be hoping to stay in the Premier League in the upcoming weeks. The capital club will not play again until March 30, when they visit Nottingham Forest in a match that might decide the outcome of the campaign for both teams, who are trying to avoid relegation. After that, on April 2, Glasner takes his team to AFC Bournemouth. On April 6, the team has the difficult job of hosting Manchester City.
