Ivan Toney of Brentford is apparently being considered by West Ham as a long-term Michael Antonio replacement.
Although Antonio has shown flashes of brilliance, such as in the team’s most recent 5-0 Europa League triumph over Freiburg, questions about his consistency and fitness have been raised, which has presented difficulties for manager David Moyes.
Toney, who is 28 years old, seems like a really appealing option. His ability to hold up play and his impressive scoring record of 72 goals in 134 games make him a perfect target for the Premier League. He is considered by many to be the best player in his position right now.
Toney’s services may not be easily obtained, though, for West Ham. Brentford now values him at a whopping £60 million, having earlier turned down the chance to purchase him for just £10 million.
Although Toney is clearly talented, West Ham has a big obstacle due to his high price, which may make the transfer unlikely.
Finding a balance between Antonio’s expertise and the need for a younger, more reliable player to lead the forward line is the club’s challenge.
