Željko Sopić has spoken highly of Marcel Krajewski, describing the Widzew Łódź defender as a talented young player with the qualities needed to make a significant transfer in the future. The former Widzew coach discussed the 21-year-old during an interview published on the Napoljan channel.
Sopić, who is currently in charge of Žalgiris Kaunas, made it clear that he remains a big admirer of Krajewski. He believes the young defender possesses a combination of courage, determination and pace that is difficult to find among defenders across different leagues.
“I love Krajewski. He is brave, has a fighting spirit and is still a very young player. It is not easy for him in this team, but I really like the way he is developing. I think he will make a good transfer from Widzew,” Sopić said.
The Croatian coach also revealed just how highly he rates the Polish youth international. According to Sopić, Krajewski is the type of player he would be willing to take with him to any club he manages in the future.
“Many people don’t believe in him, but I would take him to any club I go to. I am being honest because he has a mentality and speed that I have not seen in many defenders in different leagues,” he added.
Krajewski has been part of the Widzew Łódź first team since June 2024. Before moving to Łódź, the defender developed through the youth ranks and also represented Legia Warsaw’s reserve side.
His move to Widzew proved to be an important step in his career. The transfer gave him the opportunity to develop at a higher level and eventually make his Ekstraklasa debut.
Since establishing himself in the first team, Krajewski has gradually become an important option on the right side of Widzew’s defence. His performances have earned him increasing responsibility, while his development has also attracted attention beyond the club.
Since joining Widzew, the Brodnica-born player has made 66 appearances, recording one goal and five assists. This season alone, he has featured in nine Ekstraklasa matches and one Polish Cup fixture.
With Sopić continuing to speak so positively about his former player, Krajewski’s development will be one to watch closely. The coach’s comments suggest that he believes the young defender has the potential to take another major step in his career and eventually attract interest from clubs looking for a dynamic and determined right-back.
