West Ham’shocked’ by Kalvin Phillips ‘attitude’, as Man City loanee ‘loses desire in playing’

West Ham coaches are reportedly’shocked at how poor’ Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips has been in games and training since his January move, alleging he appears to have ‘lost interest in playing Premier League football’.

Phillips joined West Ham on loan in January after failing to make an impression at Manchester City following his £45 million transfer from Leeds in the summer of 2022.

The midfielder made only 31 appearances for the Citizens and has lost his position in the England squad as a result of his little playing time and poor performances when given the opportunity.

Pep Guardiola questioned his fitness, alleging he was overweight on two occasions, and since joining David Moyes’ team at the start of the year, things have only gotten worse. He’s started just three games since the move, was substituted at half-time in the most recent against Burnley, and reached his lowest point in the 4-3 defeat to Newcastle, when he was brought on to help the Hammers lead 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining.

According to Football Insider, West Ham staff are ‘privately claiming’ (clearly not so privately) that Phillips ‘has seemingly lost interest in playing Premier League football’, with coaches ‘taken aback by his attitude in training and behind the scenes’.The report goes on to say that the midfielder has not only underperformed in games but has also been extremely disappointing in training since joining from Manchester City in January. Indeed, West Ham’s coaches were taken aback by how terrible he has been.

According to the report, ‘Phillips’ price has plunged, and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Man City are aware they will have to suffer a “huge loss” to get him off the books this summer. ‘They were hoping to increase his value with the loan at West Ham, but are now preparing to accept a lower cost in the off-season.’
